Soak up the sun!

We highly recommend enjoying natural sun this summer. The benefits of sunbathing are vast, including:sun burn

  • Builds the immune system
  • Lowers depression
  • Decreases skin irritations such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis
  • Cleanses  and oxygenates the blood and increases circulation
  • Increases production of vitamin D

Too much sun can lead to sunburn, which we all know is not helpful to our health. Sunburns damage the top layers of our skin, are uncomfortable, increase the signs of aging, and in some cases can lead to dangerous conditions such as melanoma. When sunburned, helping your skin recover fast with natural methods is advised.

Our best tips for natural sunburn care:

Aloe Vera:

Fresh aloe vera, from the plant is the best for sunburned skin. Time tested, and simple, fresh aloe vera rubbed on sunburned skin aids in hydrating the skin and providing comfort for the burn. If you don't have access to a plant, use a product that is 100% aloe. Stay away from lotions that have aloe as an ingredient. Most have fillers that are harmful and unnecessary.

Hydrate:

Drink lots of extra water to hydrate from the inside and apply high quality, all natural hydrating oil to your skin. Being well hydrated will help your skin heal faster and reduce sun damage. Here at Zama, we adore Farmhouse Fresh Body Oils. Quinsyberry Body oil is quick-absorbing, lightweight and silky feeling. Made with blackcurrant extract and rich in vitamin C, it's perfect for replenishing the skin's softness and quenches its thirst. The antioxidative properties found within blackcurrant extract also work to repair sun damaged skin.

Essential Oils:

sunburnEssential oils can help with both the burn inflammation and repairing your skin quickly. Peppermint oil cools and relieves pain from sunburn. Here's how to create a peppermint spray: Simply combine 20-30 drops peppermint oil in 2-4 ounces of water in a glass spray bottle and mix in a pinch of salt. Mist the peppermint tonic onto the sunburn and enjoy its cooling, painkilling effects!

Lavender and frankincense oils are also helpful in repairing sun damaged skin. Mix the oils together and apply directly to burned areas. Many essential oil users report great success using this combination to prevent peeling and their aid in quick recovery.
